Amit Kiran Deb, ex Chief Secretary of West Bengal and chairman of the Board of Trustees of Future Hope School, spoke with great affection of his long standing connection with Future Hope, and how the work he does for Future Hope is a pleasure rather than a duty.
Tim Grandage showed us how Kolkata is changing, enjoying swift economic growth and how there are plenty of opportunities for the educated middle classes.
He showed images of street children taken in 1987 when he first arrived in Kolkata and pictures taken just this year. On the streets there is little change. Indeed the abuse of solvents has made life for street children even more difficult. So Future Hope’s role is more important than ever in providing the stability of a home life, the education and the range of activities that FH provides to equip them to go out into the world and support themselves.
New Link with Rugby School
Tim introduced Patrick Derham, Headmaster of Rugby School, who announced a new partnership between the two schools, whereby Rugby will in future provide educational support to Future Hope School on a charitable basis. This will take the form of advice on teaching, curriculum, professional development, governance and management.
