Mela 2007

The Future Hope Mela was even bigger in 2007 with 100s of supporters and well wishers packing Rowland Road on 14 April which was also Bengali New Year’s Eve. The most popular stall was Mintu’s lucky dip which had jostling lines of hopefuls wanting to take part until the very end. The decoration of Rowland Road had a new twist with a giant mural painted on one wall and a typical Bengali village house re-created in the garden. The food and drink as always was a huge hit with cocunut water, lassi, puchka, cookies and stir fry all going down a storm. The show was mc’d by Maidul who did a fantastic job keeping it all running smoothly. Excellent dance and song performances were all rounded of with a finale ‘Bollywood’ dance number – that had the crowd cheering for more!
