Types of gifts
Residuary gifts are made from whatever is left over once gifts of money and specific items have been distributed. They are often a percentage of an estate e.g. you could leave 1% each to two charities and 98% to family.
Pecuniary gifts are specified sums of money.
If you have a Will already, adding a gift to a charity is easily done through a codicil form. Please download this form and fill it out for filing with your Will.
If you’re planning on writing your first Will, rest assured that it doesn't have to be complex. For example instead of looking at items in your estate you can look at allocating percentages of your estate. It’s best to visit a solicitor, who can guide you through this process and ensure your wishes for your family and any charities are clearly stated.
