Future Hope School

Education is a human right but one that millions of children are still denied. By providing underprivileged children with an education at our school we give them the key to unlock opportunity; a chance to get a decent job, to escape poverty and to support their families & communities.

In 2009 India enacted the Right to Education Act (RTE), providing children aged between 6 and 14 years old the right to free and compulsory education in a neighbourhood school. Despite this law, many thousands of children in India lack schooling, live on the streets and are abused, exploited and maimed every day. For impoverished children to take advantage of India's growth they need to be educated.

Competition for places in Kolkata's schools is acute and they often demand fees and other expenses far beyond the pockets of the poor. Future Hope School is CBSE affiliated and aims to offer a holistic all-round education that is accessible to the underprivileged. We believe that given the right opportunities children can learn and excel irrespective of their financial standing. Hence we do not charge any fees from the children of Future Hope School.

Street children often find it difficult to concentrate, dislike confined spaces and in many cases do not know how to draw, paint or write. To help them settle and adjust gradually to the structures and discipline required in a normal teaching situation, we operate an introductory informal classroom environment with individual attention, which is essential to help them catch up with their peers.

All our children come from backgrounds where everyone is illiterate. Each child who enters Future Hope School is required to study in English. Through a combination of one-on-one teaching, dedicated software courses in our well-equipped computer laboratory and reading sessions, our newest students are able to progress with confidence.

Fast Track is a focussed programme for older children who arrive at Future Hope School without any previous education. It helps them to adjust to the somewhat alien academic environment while pursuing an accelerated learning curve so that they can be integrated into their age-appropriate class as soon as possible.
